The UK's Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and Warwick Business School have jointly published a report which highlights the critical importance of political awareness to effective organizational leadership. Entitled Leading with Political Awareness, the report aims to develop leaders' skills to manage the political dimension in organizations.
Having contributed to a focus group of managers, as part of the research process, I attended the 12 June launch of the report at a breakfast meeting held on the Thames-side terrace of the House of Lords. It was rewarding to hear the increasing recognition of the need for managers to 'act politically' (or "lead with political awareness") if they are to deliver business results and improve organizational performance.
Author of the report, Professor Jean Hartley of Warwick Business School, says: “No individual or organisation exists in a vacuum and the impact of their actions can be felt across a diverse set of stakeholders. This means that political skills are not the ‘dark art’ that so many associate with them. Rather they are fast becoming a mainstream element of leadership needed across all business sectors.”
A copy of the press release and a download of the Executive Summary of the report can be found on the CMI's website. Further information and copies of the full report can be obtained by emailing [email protected] or calling the Chartered Management Institute on +44(0) 20 7421 2721.
I appreciate. Thanks for sharing such information.
